Why are people quick to find the faults in others, but seldom as fast in their selves? Is it due to our egos?

Or I guess we don't know ourselves too well.
But in reality, I think we know our faults(no matter how subconciously), but we're scared to admit it, so we find the faults in others and use them to make ourselves feel better.
So we're all mean, scary bullies.
