Endoplasmic Reticulum

Hopefully, by reading the title you will have an idea as to what I am going to talk about, if not- cells. No, I do not mean Duracell batteries (my parents call batteries cells) I am referring to plant and animal cells. Still having trouble? Maybe this will help...

Is it coming back to you now? Anyway, we started the cell strand in school today and let me be the first to say halelujah! Yes, I know I am not Catholic or Christian but I am extremely happy. For as long as I can remember I have been interested in cells and when I found out we would be learning about them this year I was elated. Today was a pretty basic day though, no micoscopes with whitefish blastula or onion root, we just got a piece of paper with a description of various parts of cells and based on that description, we had to fill out a diagram on the back. After examining each description carefully and finally finishing the sheet, I realized the diagram was in the same order as the back. Yes, smart me... Well, at least I did not cheat. I wonder if I can remember the parts without looking at the diagram...

  • Chloroplast
  • Vacuole
  • Cytoplasm
  • Mitochondria
  • Cell membrane
  • Cell wall
  • Endoplasmic reticulum
  • Nucleus
I think I did a pretty good job, but you be the judge of that. Lastly, the reason I did not write "cells" as my title is first, it sounds boring, and second, I love that name. In fact, I think it sounds like a spell Daniel Radcliffe would use as Harry Potter, **points wand** "Endoplasmic reticulum!" What do you think? Anyway, I suppose the main message is out of the way and now... I have to do my homework.

Wow.

That was so - I'm sorry I didn't get any of that. I tried. I really tried. I even strained my eyes, and made them tiny and furrowed my eyebrows, the whole shebang. But, nope. Nothing.

I got bits an pieces of it though. Like "Daniel Radcliffe" who was that shmuck in Harry Potty, and something about white fish.

Sorry. :(
But it sounded interesting at least.

tahts strange. we did cells in 6rth grade, how does the curriculum work up there

Jessica said...

It works like this:
My Grade 6 Science Teacher was also my math teacher, but she married math and I only recall doing one science unit...electricity.
But hey, we're still smarter :P

Ghazal said...

In grade six we learned about electricity and animals...

Jessica said...

Oh yeah, animals, that was the other one.
:P
And my mom says the curriculum here is "advanced..."

Ghazal said...

Advanced in comparison to the animals themselves- maybe.

Jessica said...

:P
No, but really, she told me when we were moving(my grades were all As) that I needed to do "better in school" so that when I get there, I'm doing "just as well as the other kids."

Really that was a fancy way of saying(IMHO) that for once(yay) I wouldn't be the only gifted kid.

Ghazal said...

My mom said that too. Ironic.

Jessica said...

But your mom wants you to be smart :P
My mom doesn't CARE how smart I am.
