Yesterday was a day of merriment, festivities, and laughter- for the hosts of the parties I attended. On Saturday I had 3 parties to go to, with 2 of them coinciding with one another. In the end I had to narrow it down to two. I decided not to attend the birthday party of an acquaintance I made at the beginning of middle school. The parties I did decide to go to belonged to my Twinkie-for-breakfast-eating-Naruto-loving-crazy neighbour and the engagement of an old family friend.
First came the birthday party of my neighbour. Yesterday a
fternoon at around 12:30 PM, just as I was about to dig into a mouth-watering piece of sushi, the phone rang. Having what my mom calls "phone senses" I left the sushi and went to answer it. It turned out to be my neighbour who was calling me to his house early to help with decorations... I tried to explain to him that I was going to eat lunch, but he begged, and there are some people in the world you just can't refuse- so I left my lunch and hopped the fence. Once I arrived he hugged me and expressed his gratitude with a slice of pizza. It wasn't my sushi, but it would have to do. We started in the living room, putting up streamers, blowing balloons and whatnot, and then we moved on to their formal dining room. There he set the table, which I had to reset even though he did try his hardest. After that, we decided to take a break and he showed me the Naruto weapon set his parents got him for his birthday. It was really cool. In fact, I asked if I could keep it, though he said no... This is a pretty good picture of what it looked like. http://tinyurl.com/ydm9yrn
Soon after that his mother came home with the snacks so I helped her get those organized as he went to go change. Not having faith in his... sense of style his mom sent me up to help him, and boy was she right. He picked something like this... http://twitpic.com/je6bt Now I know it was alright, but it being his birthday and all I had to find something nicer- so I went scrounging through his closet and came up with something like this, http://twitpic.com/je785. Now if you ask me, I think what I chose was much better, even his mom agreed! Anyway, after about 15 minutes the guests arrived and we all ate, watched TV, played some games, and ate cake. I had to leave early though because I had another party (engagement) to attend, so I ran home admist the celebrations, to get dressed- again.
This time I had to wear an Indian suit, and let me tell you I was not happy. Sure, Indian suits are pretty, but they are very itchy. This particular suit also happened to be very loose so I looked like I put on an instant 20 pounds. Anyway, nothing special about getting ready... Suit, makeup, shoes, hair...
When we arrived at the venue for the party we realized we were horribly early, and the hosts themselves had not arrived. This was especially despicable for our family since we are usually an hour late to everything. Anyway, after some people started to arrive we walked into the hall and were greeted by the hosts. They claim I have grown... When we got inside the hall we realized they started serving the appetizers so we got in line. The food in general was not very good. I didn't like it and ended up eating half of a samosa. After the horrible snacks the bride-to-be came in with her fiancee and they ceremony began- nothing interesting here. I had a terrible seat behind the biggest lady in the world. I could not see a thing. After that I simply sat in one spot for 3 hours. It was boring, let me tell you, and the fact that dinner was late was even worse. Sometimes I wish I could change the typical Indian mentality, but it turns out, I can't do that yet- so for the time being, I suppose I will have to learn to cope.
I did manage to meet one person I knew there, and we talked, but that will come in another post. I am getting a little tired of typing right now.

i hate going to lots of parties :@ unless they are my families :D
Ghazal, you are officially my favourite online person now: that was a rather chic outfit you picked out for your friend, very much in tune with contemporary sensibilities of what young men should wear, as opposed to what they *could* wear! Ugh.
Oh, desi parties! You can take 'em out of India, but you can't India out of them! Persevere, my sweet, some day you'll be throwing elegant soirees where everyone will be on time and the h'ors d'oeuvres will be scrumptious!
I so enjoy reading you, dear! You are guaranteed to make me smile.
I love the weapons. And your neighbour sounds cool, even if he does eat twinkies for breakfast.
o.o Old Navy red sweater=GAG GAG GAG.
"Sure, Indian suits are pretty, but they are very itchy." I know that all too well.
@Caulin I hate family parties, mostly. But if its with my friends or people my age who are not stupid, I'm good.
e.o Twinkies for breakfast???
and o.o nice stuff
@Caulin: I hate going to parties in general, unless they are thrown by someone who knows how to throw a party- either that, or one of my friends.
@GG: Thank you for the compliment! As I have mentioned in the past, the same goes for you. There was one thing I forgot to ask my neighbour though, how in the world can you wear an Old Navy sweater when you had "those" clothes in your closet? It just doesn't make sense!
@Jessica: I guess cool is one word for it.... That is what I told him, though I couldn't help but laugh at the face he made when I showed him the clothes I picked out for him. Yeah... itchy and fat and 2 things I would rather not put together.
@Matt: Yeah, o.0 pretty much covers the topic of what my face looked like when I witnessed the ground-breaking event, or in this case, fast-breaking, get it? I loved the ninja gear though.
XD nice one Ghazal
and shinobi gear = win :D
Shinobi gear is win. Thanks Matt. :P
you're welcome ^.^
OOO nice touch with the waistcoat!
I absolutely share GG's sentiments on this one!
and... I'm a big FAN!
"biggest lady in the world" LOL… Oh you… HEHE!
S
-is jealous of Ghazal because she has fans-
:P Just kidding, I take pride in the fact that I introduced you to blogging and that's enough for me :)
@S: Thank you for the compliment. :) Also, I kid you not, she probably set a world record...
@Jessica: **Huggle** I never forgot that. I think I mentioned you in my first post.
I think you did :P
That post is the first in my Blogger homepage thingy(meaning it's at the bottom, which really makes it the last :P)
-huggle-
This is exactly what I wrote, "Wow, I am so excited, today is my first day with my blog, and it is, 10:48 PM, wow, am I up late or what? Well, my inspiration, my friend Jessica, whom already has a blog on this site, and I won't mention it because I am sure she has it trade-marked, or something."
Aw, thanks. **Hugs back**
Haha, trademarked....
...memories... :(
Way too many memories... :(
Did you ask about going to Derek's house?
Uh... no. I just don't know how to bring it up. I think I have to volunteer that day anyway.
I hate you.
I will never see you in braces :(
Well, I guess I could just try and ask and come a little late...
I would love you for it :)
Alright, tomorrow. For sure.
If you do it I'll email you an ice cream bar :)
Okay. I will. Now I have 2 people pressuring me to ask...
Me and...
Kanishkan.
Kanishkan's going!
SQUEE! (I pretty much squee when I find out anyone will be there, though it means less cookies for me)
Uh, Kanishkan said almost everyone he invited is going, though he needs to call Abhijit somehow since he is not replying to his email.
SQUEEEEEEEEEE!
(xD)
That's good.
Except the whole cookie situation.
(I'm really hyper today...not as much as Cookie Monster, I swear.)
Somehow I doubt that.
It's true! Am I naming people's blogs different types of cookies based on their colours?
And she does?
She named people types of cookies based on jacket colour.
But I can't really see your jacket, can I?
I am not wearing a jacket at the moment.
And if you were I wouldn't be able to see it.
