Happy Diwali!

I know it is tomorrow, but in case I am too busy doing homework (which I should be doing now) I would like to wish everyone a very happy Diwali.

By the way, I will post details on my trip to Stratford to see "A Midsummer Night's Dream" either some time this weekend or week.

Atleast the indian teachers could have understood.

Are you going to be doing anything special?

Btw it reminds me of that office episode. :DD

Right now all I feel like doing is sleeping and it isn't even that late.

@Sonia: I still haven't seen that episode!

Dude, what exactly is Diwali? I know lots of Indian folks, and they celebrate this - I've asked them a dozen times, but no one tells me. =[

I know it's sorta like Christmas or something, but I just don't get the reason for celebrating.

Please explain.

And to you darling! I am officially ignoring the festive season, since I:
a) have an ugly midterm on Monday.
and b) I really do not want to rake up memories of Diwali back in my Eternal City, I won't be able to stand it...

But you have yourself a luminescent one!

@Kraven: It is the Indian festival of lights. The meaning of it is different in different religions, but I will explain the significance of it in my religion, Sikhism, and Hinduism since it is the largest religion in India.

Sikhism: At Diwali we worship the religious freedom for Sikhs and this is why Diwali is called the Light Festival. (Read the first comment- http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/interfaith-dialogues/5835-why-is-diwali-important-to-sikhs.html)

Hinduism: In Hinduism is it different in various parts of India, but in northern India and elsewhere, Diwali celebrates Rama's return from fourteen years of exile to Ayodhya after the defeat of Ravana and his subsequent coronation as king; in Gujarat, the festival honours Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth; in Nepal Diwali commemorates the victory of Lord Krishna over the demon king Narakaasura; and in Bengal, it is associated with the goddess Kali.

@GossipGuy: Thank you! I will light an extra firework for your mid-term. All the luck in the world!

I would love to see a Ryan-Kelly wedding! That would be awesome! Though you are right, they would get a divorce the next day. I actually wish Angela and Dwight would get married.
